My Daughter Got Accepted Into College... sort of

Quiana just got into the Conservatory of Fine Arts at Cal State LA. I am really excited for her. She is so happy to have been accepted because she has a true love for art. I don’t know any other 10 year olds who study graffiti magazines and the color schemes a cinematographer selects in a film.

The Conservatory of Fine Arts combines the instructional skills of district personnel and professionals. This program is for kids who are students of LAUSD and are identified to have talent in the visual arts. The program offers instruction to elementary, middle, and senior high school students who attend LAUSD schools. They have field trips to museums, student demos and even an art show at the end of the year.

This is gonna be bananas!!!!

Word of Faith: Why I Left

I came across this blog on one of the forums I frequent. Pretty interesting post. Though I have never been a pastor I can relate to his words. Thanks to the brothers on HCR for exposing me to the truth!

Runaway convert’s parents want case moved to Ohio

ORLANDO — The parents of Rifqa Bary, an Ohio teenager who ran away because she believed her life was in danger after converting from Islam to Christianity, are trying to get the case moved from Florida to Ohio.

Rifqa’s parents filed a motion September 21 in Columbus, Ohio that puts into question which state will have jurisdiction over the case. An Ohio judge set October 27 for a criminal case and a dependency case hearing.

Ohio lawyer, Kort W. Gatterdam is representing Rifqa in the criminal matter. That case was prompted by a filing by Rifqa's father, Mohamed Bary, asking a judge to declare his daughter incorrigible for repeatedly being disobedient according to the Orlando Sentinal.

Gatterdam has filed a motion to dismiss the criminal case.

Rifqa’s father also filed a criminal complaint Monday against Blake and Beverly Lorenz who sheltered Rifqa for more than two weeks before she was taken into Florida state custody.

Florida currently has an emergency temporary jurisdiction but Judge Daniel Dawson will confer with the Ohio judge to determine who will hear the case.
The Barys have denied ever threatening their daughter concerning her Christian faith, however Rifqa still feels her life is in danger.

School officials cleared of criminal contempt charges for praying

A federal judge in Pensacola ruled September 17 that Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman did not violate an order against praying in school. The criminal contempt hearing was brought after the ACLU asked that Lay and Freeman be held in contempt a prayer.

Happy Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur (Hebrew: יוֹם כִּפּוּר‎, IPA: [ˈjɔm kiˈpur]), also known as the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for religious Jews. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jews traditionally observe this holy day with an approximately 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days. Read the rest here

Jesus loves Fiddy

GOD WANTS EX-KORN MEMBER TO 'SAVE' 50 CENT

Former KORN rocker BRIAN 'HEAD' WELCH is trying to "save" 50 CENT after God told him to contact the rapper. Welch, who quit the heavy rock act to devote his life to Christianity, insists he was driven to write a letter to 50. He tells the Examiner.com, "I felt like he (God) told me to go to 50 Cent and write a letter to him, and tell him Jesus wants to save him. "I was like, 'Alright, God!' And I went and found his jeweler. I bought some diamonds off of him and I gave him a note and he was like, 'I'm gonna go see 50 in, like, three days...' I go, 'Give him this note.' "It was a long letter, saying Jesus wants to save him."

Former freestyle champ Jin better known for his battles on 106 and Park and Fight Klub is back on the scene as a Christian rapper. After winning 7 straight weeks on Bet’s 106 & Park he signed with Ruff Ryders who are known for producing artists such as DMX, The Lox and Eve. Jin now resides in Hong Kong and is signed to Universal Hong Kong. He still manages to display his lyrical skills on the mic while representing Christ. Jin recently released a new track titled “Welcome to the Light Club”

Evangel vs Rakim

You probably thinking who the heck is Evangel and what nerve does he have going up against probably the GOAT? I found out about both songs while on a thread on the HolyCulture.net forum.

Rakim, a pioneer in the art of emceeing, originally recorded a track called “ Holy Are You“. Rakim used this song to boast about his lyrical skills and greatness as a rapper. Most listeners might would ask, okay what else is new… isn’t that every rap song?

As a fan of hip hop music and a card carrying member of The Peoples Coalition for the Preservation of Hip Hop (copyright pending) I found my self divided at first. Thanks to my Uncle Hank I was introduced to Eric B & Rakim at an early age. So I grew up listening to Ra’ and would memorize the lyrics to a lot of his songs. I even studied his rhyme scheme and incorporated it in my lyrics w hen I grew older and began to rhyme myself.

However as a Christian you begin to see (and hear) things differently. So I completely understand the need for Evangel’s response. Chalk one up for Evangel in the W column!!!!!

Finding A New Church

I have been thinking about finding a new church for a while now. There a number of reasons why I have been feeling like this. One main reason is that my pastor has strayed away from Christ centered preaching to that of prosperity. Now I am not saying that I don’t believe God can heal you or provide your needs. I just don’t believe that Jesus died so I can push a Benzo and never catch a cold. I believe that He deserves the glory whether I’m sick or healthy.

“Hey what’s going on man? I see you’ve been studying a lot. How much you really believe that. I mean I’ll tell you what I believe and why I believe it but trust me it’s not the norm.” –Phanatik, Spare Rituals

I would find myself going home after service and going into long discussions with my wife about what was wrong with Sunday's sermon. It started with me questioning teachings that were presented without any scriptural support. Often when scriptures were used, they were taken out of context. It came to the point where I was no longer being edified. Everyone there is mad cool and I have grown really attached to the department that I serve in. I’ve had the chance to help out in media and even the outreach. But the final straw was when our church invited Doctor, Apostle, Pastor, Reverend Fred KC Price to our church (I will save that for another post)

However this did give me the opportunity to get grounded in the scriptures and strengthen my faith. I began to search out the scriptures for myself to get a better understanding of what I truly believe. I am really glad that God gave my wife a peace about this as well. During this time I was listening to sermons by RC Sproul, Mark Driscoll, John Piper, Eric “Pastor E” Mason, and Justin Cox from P4CM. So when it came time to choose a new church I was torn between Grace Community and P4CM. My wife and I took a trip to P4CM on Sunday and it was truly amazing. Everyone was mad nice and you can feel an earnest heart for the Lord. The sermon was on point and I feel that God has led us here to this new church family.

Did Jesus Go To Hell?

Marc's car sucks but he has nice kicks

I used to have an old Hyundai Excel that I "inherited" from my mom. In retrospect I think she just dumped it off on me because it had too many problems. One of them was that I couldn't drive anywhere without filling the radiator with a gallon of water. Ah.. the not so good ole days

Happy Independence (from the bondage of sin) Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July. I'm looking forward to all the bbq's this weekend. On this day many people celebrate the many freedoms we enjoy in this country. There are many troops who paid a price for us to enjoy our independence. Let us not forget the freedom we have through Christ Jesus and the price He paid. We are no longer bond servants to sin because of the blood he shed.

Bible-Dispensing Family Arrested At Pride Festival

Jun 27, 2009 10:23 pm US/Central

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― The Pride Festival kicked off in Loring Park Saturday.
There were live bands, food and thousands of people. It's now the
third-largest gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender celebration in the
country.

But there was some trouble there Saturday night.

Minneapolis Police arrested three people from Hayward, Wis. for trespassing.
An amateur photographer named Aaron Bogle gave WCCO-TV video of a father,
mother and son being arrested.

For 11 years, Brian and Doris Johnson have passed out free Bibles at the
festival.

This year, they were not allowed to have a booth. Pride paid to rent the
whole park and that gave them the right to choose which vendors they allowed
in.

The Johnsons said they are born-again Christians and they believe
homosexuality is a sin.

Police said they were each being held Saturday night on a $50 bail or a $300
bond.

Who is like Him?

Canis Majoris was once a yellow and now a red hypergiant star located in the constellation Canis Major. With a size of up to about 2,100 solar radii, it is the largest known star and also one of the most luminous known. It is located about 1.5 kiloparsecs (4.6×1016 km) or about 4,900 light years away from Earth... To illustrate, if Earth's Sun were replaced by VY Canis Majoris, its diameter might extend to the orbit of Saturn.

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
and by the breath of his mouth all their host. -Psalm 33:6

My princess is leaving to PR

My baby girl just left. I am not nervous or scared like I thought I would be but I do know that I am gonna miss her. She has never been gone for more than 6 hrs and that is just because she has to go to school. I mean she's never even been to a sleepover. This is my first born. I was so protective of her when we had her. I used to make everyone wash their hands with antibacterial soap before holding her. I am really optimistic though. I was talking with Wally and this is going to be an awesome experience for her. Not only is she going to learn about her Puerto Rican culture but she is also going to have the opportunity to bond with her grandmothers and great grandmother. I am gonna stay in prayer... Philippians 4:6
